The Imperial County Board of Supervisors met twice this week.

The first meeting was held in the Board Chambers in El Centro on Tuesday afternoon and the second meeting was Tuesday evening in Holtville. Among the action taken by the board was approving the 2023-2024 proposed county budget. The Board unanimously approved a budget with $567,000 in spending. The budget includes increases for Behavioral Health Services, public health, public safety, social services, and community services. The budget includes 2,587 funded full-time positions, an increase of 40 over the previous year. Hearings for a final budget document will be held August 22, 2023 with a Final Budget to be presented at the September 19, 2023 meeting. 

The Board also approved adopting plans and specifications for Main Street improvements in Niland. They also authorized public bidding for the project. Proposed improvements include construction of sidewalks. ADA ramps, driveways, curb and gutters, a bike lane as well as striping and signage. The cost is estimated at slightly over $981,000.

The Board also conducted a public hearing and unanimously approved the proposed wastewater increase for the Country Club Sewer Maintenance District at the Barbara Worth Country Club.
