The National Weather Service (NWS) says things will start to heat up in the Imperial and Yuma Valleys.

Near normal temperatures are expected through Thursday and then start to climb Friday through Tuesday evening. NWS says a high pressure system is building over the region and persisting through Independance Day. Forecasts for Saturday predict a high of 114 and then 116 on Sunday and 114 again on Monday. Temperatures will recede a bit starting Tuesday but summer has arrived.

Experts suggest that outdoor activities be limited for not only people but also for pets and livestock. Drink plenty of water. There are Cooling Centers throughout the Imperial Valley that can offer some relief.
