(Juneteenth is the newest Federal Holiday)....It has been adopted by 18 states. California is one of them.

Juneteenth is a combination of June and 19th. It marks the day the last enslaved African/Americans were notified of the emancipation. They were notified by Major General Gordon Granger on June 19th, 1865, in Texas. The day has been celebrated in various forms for decades. The City of El Centro, Imperial Valley Social justice Committee and Black Lives Matter are inviting the public to a Juneteenth celebration on Saturday June 17th, from 3 to 8 pm at the El Centro Community Center, 375 South 1st Street. There will be food, Music, entertainment, face-painting, spoken word, vendors and more.
