Two suspects wanted for murder in Texas were arrested in Imperial County.

At about 8:00 p.m. Saturday, an Imperial County Sheriff's deputy responded to the Calexico Border Patrol Station to meet with agents about a vehicle that was stopped at a checkpoint operation on Interstate 8. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 3 firearms, one of which had been reported stolen. The driver of the vehicle, 20-year-old Christopher Trevor Torres, was found to be a convicted felon. He was subsequently arrested.  A records check of a passenger in the vehicle, 20-year-old Victoria Vargas, showed no wants or warrants on the woman and she was released with the vehicle. A short time later she was stopped by the California Highway Patrol near Winterhaven and booked into Imperial County Jail on charges of Driving Under the Influence.  Vargas was set to be released from custody on Sunday evening when the Sheriff's Office received warrants for both Torres and Vargas out of Texas for murder. The pair are currently in Imperial County Jail as details for extradition to Texas are arranged.
