(De La Torre preliminary hearing set for Friday)…Scotty De La Torre is charged with causing a fatal injury collision.
Brawley police say the Calipatria resident was driving while intoxicated August 10th. They say he ran into the back of an SUV that was stopped at the intersection of Highway 86 and Wildcat Drive, pushing the SUV into the intersection, where it was hit by another vehicle. The SUV burst into flames. The driver, 58-year-old Richard Casey of Brawley, suffered fatal injuries. Investigators say De La Torres blood alcohol content was almost twice the legal limit. He is charged with felony driving under the influence causing great bodily harm, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and based on two previous DUI convictions, second degree murder. De La Torre could enter a plea at the prelim Friday.
