(Sacramento agrees on a trimmed down water bond)…..It replaces the original $11.1 billion water bond on the November ballot.
The Governor and other legislators said the original Water Bond, negotiated by previous Governor Schwarzenegger, was just too much debt. A trimmed down water bond was negotiated this week. The new bond includes $7.12 billion in new debt, plus the repurposing of existing unspent bond funds of $425 million for a total of $7.545 billion. Assemblyman Manuel Perez was among the bi-partisan support for the trimmed down Water Bond. Perez says the new Bond supports projects and programs for storage, conservation, recycling and groundwater management. And, he said, it does not overlook the state’s commitments to the Salton Sea under the Quantification Settlement Agreement.
