(The 5th Annual Robert Rosas Memorial Relay Run)….It starts this evening and ends Thursday morning.
The 68 mile relay is held on July 23rd, the anniversary of the Border Patrol agent’s death. Rosas, an Imperial Valley native, was working at the Campo Sector office on July 23rd, 2009. While on routine patrol, Rosas was ambushed by several men from Mexico. Rosas was shot to death. Several participants, mostly agents from the San Diego and El Centro Border Patrol Sectors, run the relay in 2.55 mile intervals. The interval is significant, as it honors Rosas’s call sign of 255. The Relay starts near the border in Campo at 6:00 this evening. It will end at Rosas’s gravesite at Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro. The Central Union High School graduate was survived by his wife and children.
