(Illegal migrants not expected to be released for a while)…The migrants are part of the group bussed to El Centro.
The Border Patrol is processing the people caught crossing the border illegally in Texas. Tens of thousands were apprehended, most coming from Central America. Many were children and families with children. Those sent to El Centro are mostly families. The Border Patrol says many are requesting asylum in the United States, claiming persecution in the native countries. Those will be held until hearings can be scheduled. They will then be released to their ultimate destination until the hearing date. Customs and Border Protection will determine who is released and who remains in custody. County officials were told last week only those with the means to travel to a destination will be released, saying they will not be given any federal funds.
