(CHP Maximum Enforcement Period)….It will start Thursday evening.
Maximum Enforcement is usually a Holiday period when the California Highway Patrol deploys as many officers as possible to the roadways. For the Independence Day Holiday weekend the CHP is reminding motorists to designate a sober driver and to buckle up. Maximum Enforcement begins at 6:00 pm Thursday evening and continues through Sunday, July 6th and 11:59 pm. The purpose is to reduce fatalities and injuries. Last year there were 56 fatal injuries on California roadways during the Independence Day weekend. The CHP says 70 percent were not wearing seatbelts. The Highway Patrol says their goal is to use education and enforcement to get the message out to be responsible this weekend.
