(Freedom Fest)…. A 24-year July 4th tradition.
The event began in 1991, the year the Gulf War ended. It has become Imperial County’s largest single day event, with just under 60,000 people on and around Imperial Valley Campus, and many more, witnessing the event and listening to the event from their homes, roadside and on canal banks around the Valley. Freedom Fest celebrates Independence Day and the Armed Forces that protect the nation today. This year, FM 107.5 has produced and underwritten the fireworks show synchronized to music on behalf of the Imperial Chamber of Commerce. The countywide event has the endorsement of the County Board of Supervisors, and over 335 countywide volunteers and agencies coming together yearly to make the event possible. The 24th annual Freedom Fest will be this Friday, July 4th, from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm. Concessions open at 6:00 pm and the fireworks will be at 9:30 pm. The fireworks are free to the public and provided as a community service. More information on Freedom Fest is available at kxoradio.com.
