Over $400,000 found heading south

(Over $400,000 in cash seized)….A 32-year-old Los Angeles man was arrested.

Customs and Border Protection Officers were conducting southbound inspections this week at the Downtown Calexico Port of Entry. The officers became suspicious of a Ford Expedition driven by 32 year old Mario Alvarado Gomez. The driver and the vehicle were sent to a secondary inspection area. Anomalies were discovered in the rear door of the vehicle. After a CBP Currency and Firearms detector dog alerted to the rear door the vehicle was searched. Officers found 14 wrapped packages of US Currency hidden in both of the vehicle’s rear doors. The cash totaled $410,980. The driver was questioned and he admitted to transporting cash to Mexicali 3-4 times in the past. The US citizen was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations agents for processing. He was later booked into County Jail. The Vehicle and currency were seized by the CBP
