(AB 1139 clears another hurdle)….Assemblyman Manuel Perez says it was approved by the Assembly Utilities and Commerce Committee Monday afternoon.
The bill was authored by State Senator Ben Hueso and Perez. The bill calls for California’s electrical supply portfolio to include more geothermal power. The Imperial Irrigation District and the County Board of Supervisors have endorsed the bill. The IID says they view the bill as critical to advancing its Salton Sea Restoration and Renewable Energy Initiative and the development of new geothermal energy projects at the sea as a platform and funding mechanism for its ultimate restoration. Perez says the Bill has the potential to generate $38 million per year in local revenue, and create hundreds of jobs in the Coachella and Imperial Valleys. The Bill passed on an 8-5 vote. It now moves on to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
