$1 million worth of marijuana found in van

(Traffic stop results in more than a simple ticket)….The California Highway Patrol made the stop at 7:23 Monday morning.

The officer pulled over the white Chevrolet passenger van on Highway 86, south of Keystone Road. The CHP says when the officer approached the driver of the van, he immediately detected drug smuggling indicators. A CHP K-9 was requested. When the team arrived, the dog alerted to the vehicle. Officers searched the vehicle and discovered 2,000 pounds of marijuana inside. The street value of the marijuana was placed at $1 million. The driver of the van, 30-year-old Julio C. Meza from Las Vegas, was placed under arrest and charged with felony possession and transportation of marijuana. The investigation was turned over to the Imperial County Narcotic Task Force.
