(Unemployment rate drops over a point)…The latest unemployment numbers are for May.
The Labor Market Division of the Employment Development Department released the latest jobless report. May unemployment came in at 21.1 percent, down from a revised 22.8 percent in April, and below the year-ago estimate of 23.3 percent. According to the report, 16,700 eligible workers were unemployed in May, in the Imperial County, out of a workforce of 79,400. The state unadjusted unemployment rate for May was 7.1 percent, and 6.1 percent for the nation during the same period.
