Man carrys out threat

(Man sets himself on fire in front of police)…The incident was reported at around 9:00 pm Thursday.

The unidentified man had reportedly called the County Sheriff’s office and told them he planned on setting himself on fire. The Sheriff’s office called El Centro Police, who found the man in front of the Big John’s convenience store on the Imperial and Ross Avenues. As officers spoke with the man, they say he suddenly lit himself on fire. The police were assisted by two private citizens in extinguishing the fire. El Centro Fire and Gold Cross Ambulance arrived at the seen to provide medical aid for the first and second degree burns suffered by the man. He was then flown to a San Diego area Hospital for treatment. His condition has not been released. No personal information surrounding the man has been released to the public.
