(Positive news on funding of Calexico Port)….A funding bill is moving through the House of Representatives.
The Federal Government recently approved just over $3 million for improvement at the Downtown Calexico Port of Entry. Over $100 million was being requested. County Board of Supervisors Chairman John Renison says he recently learned that a $98 million budget item had passed one hurdle in the House and was moving on to another committee. Renison said Tim Walsh, Chief of Staff for Congressman Juan Vargas informed him that approval from that committee was anticipated.. The District one Supervisor said the public is being encouraged to continue to urge support from House members for the bill. He said even Vargas, who has championed the funding since taking office, should be receiving letters from the community. Full funding would mean an expanded Port that would include more traffic lanes to make crossing the border a quicker process. Pedestrians would continue to use the current Port of Entry
