(Routine traffic stop turns into high speed chase)…Brawley police initiated the traffic stop at around 10:40 Tuesday morning.
Officers wanted to stop the white Ford F-150 because it did not have any license plates. Instead of stopping, the driver fled. Brawley Police contacted the California Highway Patrol to take over the chase as the pick-up left Brawley. The CHP picked up the chase as it headed south. The pursuit hit speeds of around 85 miles per hour, before ending in an orchard near Highway 115 and Alamo Road. The driver got out of the pick-up and attempted to flee on foot. He was apprehended in the orchard. The driver was identified as 41-year-old Ryan Rivers from Holtville. Rivers had been convicted on human smuggling charges. He was wanted by US Marshall’s for violating parole. Rivers was booked into County Jail, after he was treated for cuts and scratches received running in the orchard.
