Latest BLS wage survey

(Imperial Valley workers earn less than National Average)…That is probably no surprise.

The US Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics has released their latest survey. The report indicates workers in the Imperial Valley earn 12% less than the national average. The report also says the average hourly wage locally is $19.59, as compared to $22.01 nationally. The highest paid jobs locally are management occupations at $46.11 per hour, followed by architecture and engineering at $39.07 per hour. The BLS report indicates protective service occupations account for 7.4 percent of the local employment, compared to 2.5 % nationally. Office and administrative support occupations account for the largest share of local employment at 13.1%. The report also has food preparation and serving related jobs earning $10.63 per hour, above the national average of $10.38 per hour. It has farming, fishing and forestry jobs paying 9.53 per hour, 18 percent below the national average. The BLS say the wage survey covers May 2013.
