(Fires continue to burn in San Diego)….Officials say 9 fires have burned over 9,000 acres, so far.
Imperial County and Yuma have sent some help. Imperial County Fire Chief Tony Rouhotas says two Strike Teams have been sent to San Diego. Yuma Fire has sent an engine and four firefighters. The Chief says a Strike Team consists of five engines from Fire Departments around the County. Rouhotas says the 10 engine Strike Teams have been assigned to the Carlsbad Fire. The Yuma personnel were assigned to the second Strike Team. As of this morning, that fire had burned over 400 acres, and destroyed 22 residences, with about 10,000 people evacuated. The Strike Teams from Imperial County will remain in San Diego for as long as they are needed, though they may be rotated with fresh firefighters if their stay is extended. Chief Rouhotas said conditions in San Diego will be very difficult for firefighters, with temperatures extended near 100 degrees. The good news is that winds will not be as strong as they were Wednesday.
