(Cal EPA updating Cal EnviroScreen)….A draft of the Cal EnviroScreen 2.0 has been released.
The update is supported by Assemblyman Manuel Perez. Cal EnviroScreen 2.0 is an environmental health screening tool. The update adds new indicators and uses census tracts rather than zip codes in making its calculations. Perez says a bill he authored last year, AB 13 29, directs the Department of Toxic Substance Control to use the Cal EnviroScreen tool to prioritize its enforcement activities in the most impacted communities. He says using the tool at the Coachella and Imperial Valleys they can see that several areas in the region have among the highest scores, ranking in the top 10% to 20% levels for pollution burdens and vulnerabilities.. The draft update is available at the website for the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment.
