(Calexico officially against court closure)…The City Council adopted the resolution Tuesday night.
Imperial County Superior Court officials announced the closure months ago, saying it was for economic reasons. This month the court in Calexico, the Juvenile court and the Jail court are set to be closed, and moved to El Centro and Brawley. The City Council in Calexico Tuesday adopted a resolution opposing the move. The County Board of Supervisors also discussed the plan. The Board was told a proposed $100 million court allocation would probably be approved in Sacramento, but they did not know how much of those funds would be allocated to Imperial County. They also said the allocation was only temporary, but there was a push to add $48 million to the allocation, making the court funding whole. Supervisor John Renison and others have said they will continue to work with those opposed to the closures to try and find an alternative solution to the decision.
