(Supervisors receive economic impact report)….The report was put together by Development management Group, Incorporated.
The report deals with the anticipated closure of the ICE El Centro detention Facility. The consulting group says closing the facility would have an annual economic impact on the county of approximately $69.31 million. The Jobs Impact analysis says there are about 428 total employees at the facility, 374 full time and 54 part time positions. They say applying the appropriate multiplier, the facility is responsible for about 592 positions. That includes positions that service the facility. Michael Bracken, Managing Partner of the consulting Group, says combining the job losses at the Detention Facility and National Beef, it is estimated unemployment in Imperial County would increase 7 to 8 percentage points. The current unemployment rate is in the low 20 % range. Bracken said the jobs lost at the detention facility are relatively high paying jobs, with the security positions, with benefits, paying over $70,000 per year. The Supervisors agreed to send a copy of the Economic Impact report to the National Political Representatives, along with a request they push for the Detention facility be allowed to remain open until an agreement is worked out with the private facility opening near Calexico
