(The Race is coming)…It will be held Saturday.
The SCORE International Imperial Valley 250 will be one of the largest off-road events to come to the Imperial County. It will also be a kind of test. The Bureau of Land Management remains skeptical of off road events since the tragic incident in the Mojave Desert in 2010. The BLM has permitted this weeks event, but with several safety stipulations. Organizers say the stipulations are nothing they cannot live with, but also, if the race can go off without incident, the BLM may lighten up on the rules enough to make future events possible. SCORE has expressed an interest in making the Imperial Valley 250 an annual event. They are also interested in hosting another off-road event in September that could also become an annual event. Activities for this week’s event start Wednesday with a controlled pre=run of the course for the racers. Thursday will be the pit crew challenge, and a large procession of off-road vehicles. Friday is the Tech Inspection Expo at the Imperial Valley Mall. That event will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with several demonstrations, information booths and race item sales. Drivers will also be available to meet the public. The race itself kicks off this Saturday at 6:00 am. Spectator areas have been set up on Wheeler Road and on the south side of Evan Hewes Highway. Organizers are hoping for a fun, and safe event for all.
