Fallen Law Enforcement officers remembered

(Imperial Valley Law Enforcement Memorial)…This year it will be held May 2nd.

The event is hosted by the IVLEM Committee and it is held at the County Courthouse in El Centro. The Committee was formed in 2009. This year they will honor 39 fallen Law Enforcement officers. The Ceremonies will be on the Courthouse steps. On the courthouse lawn there will be 39 flags with pictures of each of the Imperial Valley Law Enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty since 1920. The Memorial Ceremony includes a motorcade procession of all the Imperial County agencies. Surviving family members will be provided special seating. There will be guest speakers from a variety of Law Enforcement agencies, a 21 gun salute, a flag folding ceremony, taps will be played, Amazing Grace will be sung and there will be a moment of silence for the fallen officers, along with a candlelight vigil. The Imperial Valley Historical Society has accepted the IVLEM. The goal is establish a permanent law enforcement memorial outside the Pioneers Museum near the current military memorial. Donations are needed to make that a reality. Donations can be made through the Imperial County Historical Society at 373 East Aten Road, in Imperial.
