DUI Checkpoint scheduled

(A Checkpoint is planned for El Centro)…El Centro Police Sergeant Ray Bonillas announced the checkpoint. He said it will be set-up in Elk Centro Friday night, from 8:00 pm to 3:00 am. The Sergeant says the checkpoint will target impaired and unlicensed drivers. Bonillas says the checkpoints are designed to bring awareness to motorists on the dangers of operating vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance. Bonillas said all to often, members of the community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers. He said the checkpoints are designed to reduce those tragedies. Funding for this operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Traffic Safety Administration.
