(Information released on murdered Valley residents)…The two were brutally murdered in Mexicali over the weekend. The Mexican equivalent of the Attorney General’s office is investigating the double murders. The victims have been identified as 25-year-old Rolando Castro and 27-year-old Joel Castro. The two were brothers and residents of Brawley. The bodies have been returned to Brawley for burial. The official statement from Mexicali is that the murders were drug related, though no further explanation is being released. The initial reports were that the two had gone to Mexicali to retrieve a vehicle that had been stolen. Officials now say the vehicle had been confiscated at the border. Original reports were that the two were found by night watchmen in a trash area of 9^th Street. Officials now say police responded to an anonymous call, and found the two bodies bound and handcuffed, with plastic bags tied around their heads. It is believed the cause of death for both men was the result of severe beating. Mexican officials say the investigation in centering on illegal narcotics, but will reveal no other details. They say they are working with US officials to learn more about the victims.
