County takes no stand on SB 1070 PDF Print E-mail

(Ramos best efforts come up short)…Tony Ramos has led the push for Board action against SB 1070 in Arizona.

The El Centro resident has been the only one to try and convince the Board of Supervisors to take a stand against the controversial Arizona law. Supervisors Gary Wyatt and Louis Fuentes have been very vocal in public comments against the law. Neither was at the Board meeting Tuesday, when the vice-chairman of the Board Jack Terrazas told Ramos it was too late for the County to take any type stand now. The law goes into effect Thursday. Imperial County had planned to join the Arizona Latino Caucus in support of a unified message against SB 1070. The Latino Caucus, however, could not come to a unified position on the bill, and no message was ever developed. Ramos did not take the news well, ending his appearance before the Board with name-calling and insults.
