(More than a half million dollars in narcotics seized)…The drugs were seized in 3 separate incidents late last week. All three seizures occurred at the Calexico Ports of Entry. The first incident occurred Thursday. It resulted in the arrest of a 28-year-old Mexican citizen. The man was sent to secondary inspection because he was trying to cross through the SENTRI lane, but did not have a valid SENTRI card. During the inspection a drug-sniffing dog alerted to a non-factory compartment in the dash area of the 1998 Chevrolet Malibu. Inside the compartment officers found 15 packages of cocaine. The narcotic weighed 36.73 pounds, with a value of $293,840. The second seizure occurred the same night. Customs and Border Protection officers found over nine pounds of crystal methamphetamine in a Nissan Frontier. The meth was valued at $116,880. The driver of the vehicle, a female US citizen was arrested. The third and final seizure was reported at 2:50 Friday morning. Officers searched a 1998 Honda Civic and found 59 packages of marijuana in the quarter panels. The narcotic was valued at $270,000. The driver of the Honda, a 51-year-old Mexican citizen, was arrested. |
