Lawsuit filed against Powerlink Project

(A stumbling block for the Sunrise Powerlink)…San Diego Gas and Electric is planning to build the Powerlink. Construction on the billion-dollar project was expected to begin later this year. It may be delayed. Several groups in east San Diego County have reportedly filed legal action against the project. The lawsuit, filed by an Oakland, California law firm, accuses the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildlife and the Department of Interior of violating several acts, including environmental and the endangered species act. SDG&E says they do not believe the legal action will derail the project. The litigants, however, are looking to delay the project until their claims are satisfied. The project would create a transmission line designed to carry renewable energy from the Imperial County to San Diego County. The local Board of Supervisors are strong backers of the project.
