(Calexico School one of 12 recognized in the State)…The recognitions were announced Tuesday morning.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell named 12 California Schools as 2010 Model Continuation High Schools for their programs designed to help struggling students stay in school. Calexico’s Aurora High School was among the 12 recognized. O’Connell said Model Continuation High Schools provide troubled students with exemplary programs designed to give them a second chance to stay in school, graduate, and go on to better lives and careers. He said the teachers, staff, students and parents of the schools should be proud of this significant recognition. To be recognized, the schools had to be accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and demonstrate exemplary program effectiveness in school management, curriculum, instructional strategies, assessment and evaluation, guidance and counseling, and education climate. The selected schools retain their title for three years and must submit an annual assurance of compliance with model school guidelines in order to maintain the designation.
