(Safe Holiday weekend in Imperial County)…No lives were lost over the long Holiday weekend.

The California Highway Patrol went into Maximum Enforcement at 6:00 Wednesday evening. The Holiday Enforcement period ended at mid-night Monday morning. During that period, the CHP says no fatalities were reported in Imperial County. That includes the El Centro Sector and Winterhaven. Officer Pablo Torres says there were 8 DUI arrests in the El Centro Sector and 12 in the Winterhaven area. Fewer off-road enthusiasts were reported in the Dunes this year, as compared to previous years. It is estimated 160,000 camped out in the Imperial Sand Dune Recreational areas this Thanksgiving Day Holiday weekend. Officials say they responded to 90 medical calls, with no fatalities reported in the Dunes over the long weekend. During the major holidays the dunes are patrolled by the County Sheriff’s Office and Rangers from the Bureau of Land Management.
