3 Tons Of Marijuana Stopped At Calexico Border |

U.S. Customs and Border Protection ( CBP ) Officers at the Calexico east port of entry cargo facility discovered over 6,000 pounds of marijuana hidden in a shipment of door locks entering the United States from Mexico.
On Friday , November 27, 2009 , at about 7:00 p.m., a 30-year old Mexicali man driving a tractor trailer rig with cargo listed as door locks, entered the cargo facility. CBP officers conducting a primary operation referrred the big rig to seconday inspection. There , a canine team alerted to the vehicle. An intensive examination led to the discovery of 458 wrapped packages of maijuana concealed in 67 cardboard boxes. The marijuana weighed over 6,000 pounds and is valued at approximately $5.9 million. The driver , a Mexican national , was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ) agents for further investigation. |
