3 Die In Head-On Collision

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a head-on collision involving a pickup truck and a big rig on eastbound Interstate 8 at Winterhaven Drive near Winterhaven , California. The accident occurred at approximately 11:30 Thursday morning and caused traffic to be diverted off the Interstate and onto a secondary road. Initial reports are that three people died in the accidnet. The California Highway Patrol , Imperial County Fire Department and Imperial County Coroners Deputies are at the scene as are personnel from Rural Metro Fire from Yuma, Arizona and CalTrans crews. The highway is expected to remain closed as the accident is investigated. At this time there are few other details available.
