Saturday is Aviation Day

(The First ever Aviation Day)….It is hoped Aviation Day will become an annual event. The special day was declared by the Board of Supervisors. The event will be held at Imperial County Airport this Saturday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The purpose of Aviation Day is to honor the importance of the County Airport and aviation to the region’s history and future. The keynote speaker for the event will be Assemblyman Manuel Perez, and it will feature the color guard from the Naval Air Facility, El Centro. The event is free to the public, and the first 1,000 in attendance will receive a free t-shirt. Over 30 booths will feature food and information. There will be free airplane rides for kids 8-17 years of age. The free flights will be provided by an organization known as the “Young Eagles”, which provides orientation to young people interested in aviation. Each flight participant will receive a certificate and photo. During Aviation Day, a new logo for Imperial County Airport will be unveiled. The logo was chosen as part of a contest featuring local artists. The event is co-sponsored by the Imperial Chamber of Commerce, Imperial Valley Economic Development Corporation and Imperial County.
