Jobless Rate decreases for September

(Unemployment down in Imperial County)…The numbers released by the Employment Development Department are for September. They indicate a jobless rate of 30.1% for the County. That is down 3 percent from the 33.1% reported For August. The numbers are not seasonally adjusted. Even with the drop, unemployment numbers for Imperial County are still much higher than anywhere else in the state. Officials say the high unemployment numbers in the County are attributed to several factors, including the Agricultural based economy and the large number of employees from Mexicali. The state unemployment rate dropped to 12.2% for September. That is compared to the 12.3% reported in August. The National jobless rate increased to 9.8%.
