(County approves emergency declaration)….The declaration is for the damage caused by the September 5 storm that swept through the County. The Imperial Irrigation District Board of Directors unanimously approved a similar declaration at a special meeting Monday. The District is faced with up to $1 million in damages as a result of the storm. The damages include 100 downed power poles, damage to lines and hardware, as well as to the water delivery system. The Supervisors Tuesday were told damage was even greater to road damage, washouts and debris. Public Works Director Bill Brunet told the Board a first look estimate was set at $3 million. Brunet said the estimate could increase another million dollars if he is forced to used private contractors for the repair work. The declarations allow the County and the IID to seek reimbursement of the funds spent to repair the damage from the storm. The hardest hit areas from the storm were Ocotillo, Niland and Bombay Beach. |
