Interior Department makes it easier for Solar Development)….The Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar has announced sites in six western states as Solar Energy Study areas. The purpose in identifying the sites is to fast-track solar development in the chosen areas. IN Imperial County, the Secretary identified a 40 square mile area east of Holtville, where Interstate 8 and Highway 98 intersect. Identifying the sites is said to make the permitting process easier. Officials say there has been some interest in developing solar projects in the named area, but no permits have been applied for. |
