Three Holtville residents were injured when the pickup truck they were in blew both rear tires.

According to the California Highway Patrol , A 1998 Ford pickup was westbound on Interstate 8 , just west of Dunaway Road , at about 12:30 Monday afternoon. The vehicle was being driven by 25 year old Ricardo Martinez of Holtville when the right rear tire sustained catastrophic tire failure according to CHP Officer Larry Armendariz. The tread separated from the sidewall of the tire. Shortly after the right rear tire failed , the left rear tire sustained tread separation as well. During his attempt to control the pickup , Martinez drifted into the center divider of the freeway where the truck rolled several times before coming to rest on its roof. All three occupants remained in the truck until it came to rest. All three were able to exit the vehicle under their own power. One passenger , 52-year old Enrique Magallenes of Holtville , was airlifted to UCSD Medical Center for treatment. Another passenger , a 17-year old from Holtville who was not identified , was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center. Martinez received what were described as minor injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
