San Diego, California - A potential Super Bowl preview as the San Diego Chargers take on the Dallas Cowboys to start the ir NFL Preseason on Saturday, August 9 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. This game marks the 11th preseason meeting between the Chargers and Cowboys. Dallas holds a 6-4 preseason series edge, though the Chargers won the last game, 28-16, in the 1990 preseason opener. The Cowboys also lead the regular-season series, having won six of the eight contests. Notable Connections: Chargers Head Coach Norv Turner was the offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys from 1991-93, helping the Cowboys to win Super Bowls XXVII and XXVIII following the ’92 and ’93 seasons. Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson is from Waco, Texas. He graduated from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. Cowboys Head Coach Wade Phillips was the Chargers’ defensive coordinator from 2004-06, helping the Chargers to AFC West titles in two of his three seasons in San Diego. The Starting Quarterbacks: Chargers QB Philip Rivers is in his third season as San Diego’s starter. He has recovered from offseason ACL surgery after a season in which he led the Chargers to the AFC Championship Game. Rivers passed for 3,152 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2007, while completing 60.8% of his pass attempts. Rivers has led the Chargers to consecutive AFC West titles. Dallas QB Tony Romo is also in his third year as a starter. He led Dallas to the NFC Divisional Playoffs in ’07, passing for a team record 4,211 yards and 36 touchdowns.
