The San Diego Chargers released 15 players players today. The Chargers also have placed rookie running back Germaine Race (toe) on the “Reserve-Injured” list.  Starting Sunday at 9 a.m., the Chargers may sign eight players to the team’s practice squad. The following playes have been released:

DE    Andre Coleman
DE    Keith Grennan
S       Bhawoh Jue
T       Cory Lekkerkerker
DT    Louis Leonard

LB    Nick Roach
DE    Derreck Robinson
WR  Mark Simmons
LB    Jyles Tucker

The Chargers open the NFL’s regular season next Sunday against the Chicago Bears at 1:15 p.m. at Qualcomm Stadium. Listen to the game live on KXO Radio AM1230.

Following Saturday’s practice, Turner announced the team’s five captains for Sunday’s opener against the Bears. All five are 2006 Pro Bowlers and include quarterback Philip Rivers and running back LaDainian Tomlinson on offense, linebacker Shawne Merriman and defensive tackle Jamal Williams on defense and coverage ace Kassim Osgood on special teams. Captains are voted on by the players.
