PRESEASON WEEK 1 RECAP – CHARGERS VS. SEATTLE

The Chargers fell to Seattle, 24-16, in Week 1 of the preseason on NBC’s Sunday Night Football as the Seahawks scored 17 fourth-quarter points to erase a 16-7 deficit…the team’s played to a 7-7 draw at the half…the Seahawks drove 79 yards on the game’s opening series to take a 7-0 lead on a 31-yard TD pass from Matt Hasselbeck to Deion Branch and the Chargers answered late in the second quarter on a 14-yard TD pass from Billy Volek to Malcom Floyd…a big defensive series by the Bolts, including a sack and tackle for loss by Derreck Robinson, set up the offense for their first score…in the second half, the Chargers missed some opportunities for touchdowns and had to settle for three Nate Kaeding field goals, the longest of which came from 50 yards…Seattle’s offense came alive in the fourth quarter behind quarterback Seneca Wallace, who led two touchdown drives and one field goal drive in the final 15 minutes…the Chargers put together a late drive looking to tie the game, but a Charlie Whitehurst pass to the Seattle six-yard line was intercepted by safety C.J. Wallace and the Seahawks took a knee to close out the victory…the Bolts were hurt by eight penalties in the game, including one call that negated a Drayton Florence interception, another that negated a missed field goal by Seattle and gave them a second chance that they converted, and several offensive penalties that negated potential first downs…Seattle was only flagged for two fouls the entire night…both team’s turned the ball over three times, with two fumbles and an interception each…the Bolts interception was recorded by rookie safety Eric Weddle in the second quarter…in addition to his touchdown catch, Floyd led the Bolts with 65 yards receiving on five catches…the Chargers offense surrendered five sacks to Seattle’s defense…reigning NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson did not suit up for the Chargers.
