The San Diego Chargers, fresh off a six-interception performance in a 23-21 win over the defending Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts, now head to the Sunshine State for a key late-season battle with the 6-3 Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, Nov. 18 at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. Kickoff on CBS is set for 10:00 a.m. PST (1:00 p.m. EST).
For both the Chargers and Jaguars, Sunday’s game could have future playoff implications. The Chargers (5-4) hold a one-game lead over Denver and Kansas City (both 4-5) in the AFC West. The Bolts are not only looking to stretch that lead, but also to improve their record to two games over the .500 mark. A win on Sunday would mark the fifth time in six years that the Chargers have six or more wins after the first 10 games of the season. Jacksonville (6-3) sits in a tie with Tennessee for second place in the AFC South, a game behind the Colts (7-2). The Chargers handed Indy its second loss of the season on Sunday night and face the Titans on Dec. 9 in Nashville.
.
LaDainian Tomlinson comes into Sunday’s game 91 rushing yards away from reaching 10,000 for his career. Scheduled to play in his 105th career game on Sunday, Tomlinson would become the third-fastest player in NFL history to reach 10K. Jim Brown (98 games) and Barry Sanders (103) are the fastest. LT’s 9,909 career yards rank 23rd all-time in NFL history. He’s vying to become the 22nd player in NFL history to rush for more than 10,000 yards. Last weekend, the Jaguars’ Fred Taylor (10,032) became the 21st. Atlanta’s Warrick Dunn (9,942) is also closing in on the 10,000- yard plateau.
.
Jaguars quarterback David Garrard, who has yet to throw an interception this season, may return from injury this week. If so, he’ll face a ball-hawking Chargers defense which leads the NFL with 17 interceptions on the season. Tallahassee, Florida native and Florida State alum Antonio Cromartie tied a team record by recording three of the Chargers six picks against Peyton Manning. He leads the NFL with six INTs on the season. Impressively, all six of Cromartie’s interceptions, the first six of his career, have been recorded in the Chargers’ last four games.
Per the Jaguars:
The Jacksonville Jaguars return to Jacksonville Municipal Stadium on Sunday, November 18 following a three-game road trip as they battle San Diego in a key AFC matchup. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. EST. The Jaguars enter the game with a 6-3 record, tied for the fourth-best in the AFC, and winners of two of three games on their recent road swing.
The Jaguars concluded their road trip with a 28-13 win over AFC South rival Tennessee last week. The Jaguars forced three turnovers and sacked Vince Young four times. Running back Fred Taylor became the 21st player in NFL history to reach 10,000 career rushing yards and Maurice Jones-Drew rushed for 101 yards and both scored rushing touchdowns.
“I want to continue to be an improving football team,” Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio said. “I think you must do that as a football team to be better as the year goes on. We're now into the meat of our November schedule, third quarter and AFC opponents and playoff contending opponents. It'll be a tough stretch for us.”
This will be only the third meeting between the Jaguars and Chargers with the series tied, 1-1. The Jaguars own a 2-0 mark against AFC West opponents in 2007 with back-to-back wins on the road at Denver (23-14) and at Kansas City (17-7).
