El Centro, California - The San Diego Chargers will look to extend their three-game winning streak when they head to the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” to face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, November 4th at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.
The Bolts come into the contest tied with Kansas City for first place in the AFC West at 4-3 and have won 10 straight games in the month of November, dating back to 2004. Minnesota has lost two straight and five of its last six and comes in 2-5. The Chargers have not only won three straight, but done so in convincing fashion, outscoring their opponents 104 to 27 and 42-0 in the first quarter. At 4-3, San Diego is assured of finishing the first half of the season with a winning percentage of .500 or better for the fourth straight season.
The Chargers lead the series with the Vikings 5-4. They have won six of their last seven games against teams from the NFC and 10 of the last 14. The Chargers and Vikings are meeting in the regular season for just the second time since 1999. The Chargers won the last meeting, 42-28, in 2003 at Qualcomm Stadium.
The Bolts have fashioned their current win streak by playing with an efficient and balanced offense, while suffocating the opposition with their defense and special teams play. The Chargers have had only one offensive turnover and allowed only one sack in the last three games; the offense is averaging more than 176 rushing yards per game, and six different offensive players have scored touchdowns, including four by LaDainian Tomlinson, three by Antonio Gates and one by the recently acquired Chris Chambers. Defensively during this current three-game streak, San Diego hasn’t allowed a play longer than 31 yards; they haven’t allowed a rushing touchdown, and they have taken the ball from their opponents 11 times, including three interceptions in the last two games by Antonio Cromartie. For the season, the Bolts’ 19 takeaways are second in the NFL and their +8 turnover margin is third. On special teams, San Diego’s coverage units are playing as well as any in the league. In the last three games, the Bolts have scored two touchdowns on special teams, while forcing their opponents to start 20 of 31 total drives at or inside the 20-yard line following punts or kickoffs.
