San Diego, California - A shot to recapture a share of first place in the wild AFC West will be on the line this Sunday when the San Diego Chargers return from their bye to host the AFC South’s Houston Texans at Qualcomm Stadium. All four teams in the AFC West are separated by just 1.5 games.
Kansas City leads the West at 4-3 and is off this weekend with a bye. The Chargers and Denver are tied for second at 3-3, and Oakland is just a game off the pace at 2-4. Kickoff for Sunday’s game between the Chargers and Texans on CBS is set for 1:05 p.m. PDT.

Due to the wildfires ravaging San Diego County, the Chargers are moving their mid-week practices to Arizona. The Bolts will work out Wednesday-Friday at the Arizona Cardinals’ Training Facility in Tempe, Arizona in preparation for the Texans game. The Cardinals have a bye this week.

This is not the first time the Bolts have been forced to make such a move. In Oct. 2003 when the Cedar Fire hit San Diego, a Chargers-Dolphins game scheduled to be played Monday Night Oct. 27 at Qualcomm Stadium was moved to Tempe’s Sun Devil Stadium. The week after the Miami game, the Bolts practiced in Champaign, Illinois at the University of Illinois due to the dangerous air-quality conditions in San Diego and played a game that Sunday against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.

The Chargers come into Sunday’s game 3-3 following a bye. They are riding a two-game winning streak and have never lost to the Texans. While the Bolts are just 8-9 following byes, they have won three of their last four. Houston comes into Sunday’s game at 3-4 after a disappointing loss to Tennessee on Sunday. In that game, they scored 29 points in the fourth quarter to rally from a 25-point deficit, only to fall on a 29-yard field goal as time expired. San Diego and Houston have met twice with San Diego winning 24-3 in San Diego in 2002 and 27-20 in Houston in 2004.

Including Sunday’s game, the Chargers will play three of their next five games at Qualcomm Stadium and three of their next four are against teams from the AFC South (Houston, Indianapolis and at Jacksonville). The Chargers are 2-1 at home this season and have won 10 of their last 11 at Qualcomm Stadium.
