San Diego, California - One of the NFL’s most-heated rivalries will renew itself when the San Diego Chargers visit the Oakland Raiders to close out the 2007 regular season on Sunday, Dec. 30 at the McAfee Coliseum.

The Chargers have won eight in a row against the Raiders, dating back to the 2003 season. A win on Sunday would give the Chargers their first AFC West road sweep since 1994 when the Chargers beat the Raiders, Broncos, Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks away from home.

Playoff positioning is still up for grabs for the Chargers, who are in a battle with Pittsburgh to retain the third seed in the AFC. The Steelers and Chargers have identical records (10-5), but the Bolts hold the tiebreaker edge with a better record in AFC games. Ending the season in a tie with the Steelers would guarantee the Bolts the No. 3 seed. The Chargers would then host the AFC’s No. 6 seed next weekend in the AFC Wild Card Playoffs at Qualcomm Stadium. The date and time of the Wild Card Playoffs are still TBD.

Heading into the season’s final weekend, the current playoff seedings are as follows:
No. 1 - New England (home-field advantage)
No. 2 - Indianapolis
No. 3 - San Diego
No. 4 - Pittsburgh
No. 5 - Jacksonville
No. 6 - Tennessee or Cleveland*

*Tennessee is in the playoffs as the sixth seed with a win over Indianapolis on Sunday night. If the Titans lose to the Colts, Cleveland is automatically in the playoffs as the No. 6 seed. On Sunday, the Steelers are in Baltimore at the same time the Chargers will be facing the Raiders (1:15 p.m. PST). Tennessee plays Indianapolis later that night (5:15 p.m. PST) on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

The Chargers are one of the NFL’s hottest teams. They’ve won five straight games and nine of their last 11. A victory over the Raiders would give the Chargers their second-straight season with 11-or-more wins and their ninth in team history.
