The San Diego Chargers have released quarterback A.J. Feeley. A sixth-year veteran from the University of Oregon, Feeley came to the Chargers in a trade from the Miami Dolphins on Oct. 18, 2005.

Feeley spent his first three NFL seasons in Philadelphia (2001-03) and he spent the 2004-05 seasons in Miami before being traded to the Chargers. He was inactive for 10 games last season as the Chargers’ third quarterback and he’d been inactive as well for Miami’s first five games before the trade. In five seasons, Feeley played in 18 games with 13 career starts. In those 18 games, he completed 287 of 524 passes (.548) for 3,047 yards with 19 touchdowns and 21 interceptions. In other moves the Chargers will officially place veteran tackle Roman Oben on the “Reserve – Physically Unable to Perform” list (PUP) Today.  Oben has been sidelined due to a foot injury.

By being placed on the PUP list, Oben is not eligible to practice with the team until after the sixth week of the season.  He may begin practicing anytime during the three-week window following Week 6 and may practice for a maximum of three weeks before the team must either add him to the active roster or have him finish the season on the reserve list.

The team also waived seven players today:  C-G Jimmy Martin, CB Anthony Mims, S Jerrell Pippens, WR Mark Simmons, K Kurt Smith, RB Bryson Sumlin and WR Gerran Walker.  The team also waived WR Sean Coffey late last week.

The active roster now lists 77 players.  All teams must reduce their active rosters to 75 players by 1 pm PT on Tuesday.  The deadline to reduce the roster to the final 53-man roster limit is Saturday, Sept. 2 at 3 pm PT.  Teams may sign up to eight Practice Squad players beginning Sunday, Sept. 3.
