Minneapolis, Minnesota - The San Diego Chargers (4-4) heralded defense was embarrassed by Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings, and beaten 35-17. Peterson rushed for 296 yards on 30 attempts while scoring 3 touchdowns. Peterson claimed the NFL's single-game rushing record of 296 yards at the midpoint of his rookie campaign.

The Vikings amassed 378 yards rushing and 528 yards total offense against the banged up Charger defense. LaDainian Tomlinson was limited to 40 yard rushing on 16 attempts.

Chargers cornerback Antonio Cromartie set a record that can never be broken when he returned a missed field goal 109 yards for a touchdown. The return is the longest play in NFL history.
