When the Nor'easter storm struck in April, it devastated regions throughout the east coast causing flooding, high winds and an extensive amount of damage. Dedicated volunteer members of the Disaster Services Human Resources (DSHR) team went to work, and four members from our chapter were deployed to the areas that needed the most assistance.
In New Hampshire, where hundreds of roads were closed and thousands were evacuated from their homes because of flooding, DSHR volunteer Red Schmitz joined the disaster assessment team. There he assisted in surveying the damage that was done. Volunteers Barb Lange and Howard Wolford were sent to New Jersey, which was deemed a state of emergency, and assisted local Red Cross chapters in their response efforts to heavily affected towns in the area. Robert Willhite traveled to Maine where 13 counties were severely damaged by the coastal and inland flooding and extremely high tides. |
