| [06-Jun-2007] An estimated 260 children under the age of five drown every year, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). This is the equivalent to one pre-school class every month, officials from the U.S. CPSC report. To help reduce this statistic, safety experts from AARP and the CPSC recommend installing a barrier fence at least four feet high to surround the perimeter of the pool. Other safety tips also include putting alarms on all entryways leading to the pool and having an adult supervisor on hand whenever children are swimming. |
