San Diego, California - New Mexico’s (5-2, 2-1) Rodney Ferguson's six yard touchdown run with 15 seconds left moved New Mexico to a 20-17 victory over San Diego State (2-5, 1-2) Saturday in a Mountain West Conference game in San Diego.
SDSU head coach Chuck Long stated, "That was a heartbreaker. That's obvious. It was a tough one. We had our chances. And, you know, Kevin [O'Connell], I thought, performed well in the game and it was just a tough one to lose. I told our guys in the locker room that I like the way they're growing. I know we're going to be a good football team. We had a good week in practice, we gave ourselves a chance to win the football game. We have the same kind of week next week and it's my job to get them up. It was tough, but we'll move on. Our guys are resilient. They're getting tougher and we know we'll move on to bigger and better things in the future."
San Diego State University fell to New Mexico 20-17.Aztec quarterback Kevin O'Connell scored his 13th and 14th career rushing touchdowns and fifth and sixth of the year. O'Connell equaled the school career record for most rushing scores by a quarterback held by Matt Kofler, who also had 14 from 1980-81.
